Lawn Renovations
A lawn
renovation (usually performed during spring/early summer) is an opportunity to
reset your lawn and set it up to be in the best condition it can. We offer scarifing, scalping, aerating, top dressing and fertilising services. If you are interested in all or some of these services, get in touch today.
Scalping a
lawn is to mow the lawn very low, depending on the turf type this can sometimes be down to the dirt. The reason for
doing this is too remove above ground thatch (the dry/dead looking grass
sitting between the dirt and the top of the grass). Doing this helps sunlight, water, fertilisers
and other nutrients get into the soil and roots.
Scarifing involves using a specialised machine which sends blades into the ground and
pulls out the ‘below ground’ thatch. As with scalping this allows more
nutrients to enter the soil and impact the roots of the grass.
Aeration is a process of punching holes into the ground using a specilaised machine. This step is performed after the scalping and scarifing but before the top dressing. It helps to pull out old dirt, alleviate compaction, and when top dressing the new sand/soil will fill the holes further helping in drainage.
We use a
high quality blend of sand and organics to top dress the lawn up to a height of
10mm depending on the turf type. Top dressing helps to level out the ground,
aid with drainage and helps increase temperatures into the ground to encourage growth of the lawn.
To finish
off the renovation a high quality, fast release fertiliser is applied. The fast
release component allows the fertiliser to break down immediately and supply
the turf with the much needed nutrients to aid in recovery of the turf.
